Photos of the Hostel

This is the first view of the Hostel for those who drove or walked up the track from Yarrowford by way of the farm.

Coming up the path from the bridge the approach was picturesque, the view opening out as you come out from the trees:
  Sometimes there were sheep:

Sometimes there was mist:

In this pic below, from across the valley, the hostel is tucked away among the trees in the top right. The white building was the Broadmeadows Hotel:

In summer the view below was filled with greenery with open views to the hills opposite:

Note the baskets of flowers. When I arrived I tried to brighten things up a little by planting marigolds and stock:

Behind the hostel the woods stretched up towards the hills behind:

The Warden's view from the window:

The photo below was taken from inside the overgrown ruins of Old Broadmeadows House, which, allegedly, Sir Walter Scott once considered buying. The building has probably been there for nearly 400 years. It was a small peel tower, or fortified house in the style of many in the Borders.

Here's a photo, taken by John Fairbairn of Gala, who got me to pose by the ruins:

And some miscellaneous photos,

We had some good nights, especially if the fire was on in the common room.

Music, chat and hot buttered toast.

I made a super long toasting fork out of wire, as often the fire was too hot to get near!

I would play my guitar. And I always enjoyed hearing others sing or tell stories.
