Hostellers

This is a collection of photos taken by me and others of some of the people who visited Broadmeadows during 1973. And also photos taken by hostellers of me with them.

In May, the SYHA painters arrived to spruce up the place. Willie was happy to read the paper and Albert did a bit of wood chopping. They did do a bit of painting as well.

An early visitor was Howard Hill from Aspendale, near Melbourne.
He stayed a few days exploring the area, and unlike many overseas tourists was keen to see a bit of a locality and not simply dash from one hostel to the next:

My sister, Margaret, came to visit and painted a picture of the hostel:

Despite many changes of location it was finally framed, and my wife, Jess, and I have it  hanging on the wall of our flat in Glasgow.

The moral of this one is don't leave your camera lying around! Taken by one of the girls below:

Graham Hall and Christine Acaster cycled up from Newcastle:

Ulrike Loew and her brother came from Germany:

Horst and Gerda:

Horst helped move a piano from Yarrowford to the hostel. Gerda was a photographer. I took her photo as she took mine:

Three tandems!
